Tom Brady congratulates Lightning on winning Stanley Cup
The Tampa region is reveling in yet another championship with the Tampa Bay Lightning now winners of back-to-back Stanley Cups after eliminating the Montreal Canadiens in Game 5 with a 1-0 victory Wednesday night in front of the hometown fans at Amalie Arena.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Tom Brady unsurprisingly made sure to take time to congratulate the Lightning on their latest championship, taking to an Instagram story to give a shout-out to fellow in-town pro sports team.
In a dispatch shared Wednesday night, Brady riffed on the below tweet issued by the Buccaneers in which the NFL squad paid tribute to the Lightning’s remarkable achievement of hoisting Lord Stanley’s Cup in back-to-back seasons.
“Congratulations @tblightning,” Brady added to a screenshot of the above tweet in his Instagram story, adding “Stammer” as well followed by a series of exclamation points and a heart emoji.
Brady congratulated the Lightning for last year’s Stanley Cup Final victory on social media as well, it merits noting.
The Lightning secured the organization’s third Stanley Cup exactly five months after Brady led the Buccaneers to a 31-9 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV on their home turf of Raymond James Stadium. It marked the Bucs’ second championship and Brady’s seventh Super Bowl title and first with Tampa Bay.
To say the fans of Tampa Bay teams have been spoiled over the past year would be an understatement. With Wednesday’s Game 5 clincher, Tampa Bay teams have won three titles in about 11 months dating back to the Lightning securing the Stanley Cup on Sept. 28, 2020.
The Buccaneers of course enjoyed a raucous celebration in the afterglow of the team’s Super Bowl LV victory. The revelry included an apparently inebriated Brady having to be propped up by a teammate while disembarking off a boat during the Bucs’ celebration on Hillsborough River.
Before footage showing Brady having to navigate a combination of sea legs and the effects of some adult beverage-based frivolity during a comically wobbly walk set social media ablaze, the Bucs signal-caller made a risky move rife with potentially serious consequences when he tossed the Lombardi Trophy from his boat to another boat occupied by teammates.
Brady later admitted that pulling off such a impulsive move was perhaps not the best idea given the circumstances.
The official Twitter account of the Stanley Cup trophy had some fun at Brady’s expense in light of his questionable throw of the Lombardi Trophy after the Lightning clinched.
Odds are such shenanigans are unlikely to occur when the Lightning hold their own championship parade and associated celebration. Then again, nothing can be ruled out, though Lord Stanley’s Cup is indeed much heavier than the Lombardi Trophy.
