Mark Cuban eviscerates NBA writer over Luka Doncic criticism
Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban came out swinging to passionately defend Luka Doncic in an on-air interview this week after a prominent NBA writer accused the young superstar of being a whiner toward refs.
In a profanity laced-screed during an appearance on VICE TV’s “Cari & Jemele Won’t Stick to Sports” show, Cuban absolutely laid into Zach Lowe, eviscerating the ESPN writer and podcaster in a rant littered with some choice four-letter words.

“I’ll tell you exactly what I think. F— you, Zach Lowe. You don’t know s—, you know? I know Luka, right? And he’s not a big whiner. He’s passionate. He cares, he wants to win. He’s got some s— to him. He’s one of those European players where you’ll see him do like this all the time,” Mavs owner Mark Cuban said, while demonstrating a gesture (via Clutch Points) “and talking in one of five different languages. But no, he’s not a whiner. He’s a baller.”
The controversy that inspired Cuban’s fiery retort was spawned by Lowe’s critical comments on his “The Lowe Post” podcast.
Zach Lowe says Luka Doncic has become one of the biggest whiners in the NBA— NBA Central (@TheNBACentral) February 3, 2021
“Every time he drives he is whining. He spent so much energy whining to the referees and slumping his shoulders to teammates, it sucked the life of the team many times.”https://t.co/IyOME8rsGv
“Luka has become one of the biggest whiners in the NBA,” Lowe said. “It’s constant, every time he drives he is whining. He spent so much energy whining to the referees and slumping his shoulders to teammates, it sucked the life of the team many times.”
Lowe is certainly entitled to his opinion. After all, weighing in on the goings-on around the NBA is of course his job. That said, it’s hardly surprising that Cuban came out and vehemently defended his superstar player. Even if Lowe’s opinion is based in fact, which in of itself is debatable and matter of opinion, Cuban was going to go to bat for Doncic.
What’s more, this kind of fiery rhetoric is exactly what the NBA world has come to expect out of Cuban, who is without question one of the most outspoken, opinionated and occasionally outrageous owners in pro sports.
