James Harden seemingly reacts to Adam Silver’s comments on trade demand
The James Harden saga playing out with the Houston Rockets is without question the biggest story in the NBA heading into the 2020-21 season. So much so, in fact, that the league’s boss was compelled this week to weigh on the rapidly devolving situation.
There has been no shortage of speculation and associated chatter on what may come next for Harden and the Rockets, and new rumors continue to surface amid the escalating drama despite the season getting underway Tuesday night.
Speaking to reporters Monday, NBA commissioner Adam Silver weighed in on the ongoing Harden drama while making some pointed and pragmatic comments in the process.
“To the extent that a player is unhappy with his team or a team is unhappy with a player, it’s always the league’s strong view that those matters get handled behind closed doors,” Silver said, per Jared Weiss of The Athletic. “The expectation is everyone is professional.”
“James is a great player in this league but he’s also player under contract and there’s responsibilities that come with that contact,” Silver added, via the Brian Lewis of the New York Post.
Approximately 15 minutes after Silver’s comments started making the rounds, Harden shared a seemingly cryptic post on Instagram.
While it cannot be confirmed that Harden’s post was in direct response to what Silver had to say, the timing of it arguably was more than coincidental.
Things continue to get uglier between Harden and the Rockets with the team’s regular-season opener coming Wednesday. Shams Charania of The Athletic reported this week that Harden has had multiple practice confrontations with teammates since reporting to the team on Dec. 8.
What’s more, Harden does not appear inclined to address the drama unfolding in the wake of his trade demands.

“Next question,” Harden replied during a Zoom presser on Monday.
It looks like the former MVP will remain in Houston at least in the short term. That said, new twists and turns emerge daily — including how one purported suitor has dropped out of the Harden sweepstakes — so anything could happen, perhaps as soon as today.
