Andy Reid sent Brian Flores K.C. barbecue after Dolphins beat Patriots last season
The Kansas City Chiefs’ path to the Super Bowl last season was made considerably less daunting thanks to the Miami Dolphins beating the New England Patriots in Week 17. With the Chiefs set to face the Dolphins Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium, Andy Reid confirmed that a care package was sent to Brian Flores as a token of the team’s gratitude.
The Dolphins stunned the Patriots in the teams’ season finale with a 27-24 victory. The Chiefs needed a win over the Los Angeles Chargers and a Patriots’ loss in Week 17 to snag home-field advantage throughout the postseason, which the team of course capitalized on while playing all its playoff games in the friendly confines of Arrowhead Stadium.
“So, I thought I’d just send him a little thought from Kansas City, you know,” Reid said in a conference call with Dolphins media this week, per the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. “Kansas City is known for its barbecue, so no better present to get from the good Kansas City barbecue here.”
Flores unsurprisingly was quite grateful to Reid for the gesture.
“It was good barbecue – it went fast,” Flores said Thursday, smiling. “Had my brothers over, not sure if we had some other people over. We enjoyed it. So, I was very thankful to Andy for that. And yeah, it went very quickly. K.C. barbecue is very good.”
Heading into Sunday’s game, the Chiefs (11-1) have already clinched a postseason berth and sit atop the AFC thanks to the Pittsburgh Steelers’ upset loss to the Washington Football team on Monday night. The Dolphins (8-4), meanwhile, are currently slotted sixth and in postseason position in the AFC.
Reid noted this week how impressive it was for Flores to lead the Dolphins to such a defining victory last season over the Patriots, a team with which he spent 2008-2018 working in various capacities.
“Brian is a good man first of all. And so, I know how hard it is when you go play your old team, and then to pull one of them off,” Reid said of the Dolphins’ win over the Patriots last season.
“It’s pretty exciting. And it was pretty exciting for us at the time. And so, that catapulted him into this season and the great things that he’s doing.”
That’s all well and good, but regardless of how Sunday’s game plays out, Flores probably should not count on a K.C. barbecue care package courtesy of Reid this time around.
