LeBron James praises Cam Newton for having a ‘helluva game’ in win over Jets

Cam Newton may have saved the season for the New England Patriots by leading a second-half comeback on “Monday Night Football” over the New York Jets. Among those who took notice of the Patriots signal-caller’s clutch performance was perhaps the biggest superstar across all professional sports.

The Patriots stormed back from a 20-10 deficit to keep the Jets winless on the season at 0-9 and improved his struggling squad’s record to 3-5. Newton’s play proved integral in rallying the Pats to a 30-27 comeback victory.

After Newton led the Patriots on a drive that tied the game at 27-27 and then moved the Patriots into position for the game-winning field goal — both with less than two minutes remaining — Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James gave the quarterback a Twitter shout-out.

James is a huge sports fan and frequently takes to social media to weigh in on the big games or performances on a given day, so his praise of Newton is typical for the NBA star.

As for Newton, it’s clear that leading the Patriots to a much-needed win was a huge relief given he was struggled mightily during the team’s four-game slide that preceded the victory over the hapless Jets.

Newton finished the game having completed 27 of 35 passes for 274 yards. He also added 16 yards rushing on 10 carries, which wasn’t great but one of the carries was a one-yard touchdown run that tied the game late.

Whether or not Monday’s win will turn around the Patriots’ season after a poor start remains to be seen, but a loss to the woeful Jets likely would have deep-sixed the team’s 2020 campaign.
