Jennifer Lopez: Becoming owner of the Mets would be ‘so amazing’

Jennifer Lopez and fiancé Alex Rodriguez are part of a group pursuing the purchase of the New York Mets, and the A-list actress and singer recently expressed how it would be “so amazing” for a woman to be in a position of power within an MLB franchise.

Lopez made her remarks during an appearance Thursday on Barstool Sports’ “The Corp” podcast.

“Listen, in this day and age, that would be something that would be so amazing,” Lopez said, per TMZ Sports.

“We don’t, I don’t have anything to report on that end right now. But, I think in every field, especially in institutions like Major League Baseball that are so American in this moment in time, it is important for diversity and it is important for women to have positions of power that they’ve earned and deserve and can contribute in a way that is just as good as any man on the planet.”

She adds, “So of course I am for it.”

Rumors of the legitimate interest on the part of Lopez and Rodriguez have been swirling for months. The sale process has ramped up significantly ever since hedge fund manager Steve Cohen abruptly pulled out of a potential $2.6 billion deal that would have made him majority owner of the franchise back in February.

Since then, the sale of the Mets has been stalled by a protracted bidding process. That is set to end soon, though, as Mets ownership set a Monday deadline for final offers from the groups that remain involved in the bidding war.

A-Rod and J-Lo front a group of high-profile investors who are financially backed by Vitaminwater co-founder Mike Repole and Florida Panthers owner Vincent Viola.

Among the other groups still in the running, the Cohen-led group are believed to be the favorites despite his attempt at purchasing the Mets came up short earlier this year.
