Jason Kelce jokes that Carson Wentz put on ‘dad weight’ over offseason

Carson Wentz arrived at training camp boasting a bulkier physique, and Philadelphia Eagles center and team jokester Jason Kelce couldn’t help but make a wisecrack about it.

Wentz and wife Madison Oberg welcomed the couple’s first child, a daughter, in April. Kelce opined that Wentz’s added weight is the result of signal-caller becoming a first-time father.

As Kelce alluded to in his comments, Wentz has had issues with suffering late-season injuries during his career, although he did start all 16 games in 2019 before suffering a head injury in the team’s Wild Card round loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

The game marked Wentz’s postseason debut after injuries led him to miss the Eagles’ previous two postseason appearances, including the team’s run to a Super Bowl LII victory over the New England Patriots with Nick Foles leading the way.

Unfortunately, Wentz’s first taste of the postseason lasted only nine plays before he was ruled out with a concussion after a hit to the helmet by Jadeveon Clowney.

This brief postseason appearance and missing out on the playoffs altogether following the 2017 and 2018 campaigns led to Wentz’s commitment to bulking up this past offseason.

Wentz recently explained how he was able to train better over the past several months when compared to previous offseasons.

“The last couple of offseasons, I was dealing with injuries and trying to bounce back from injuries,” Wentz recently told reporters. “This offseason, I was really able to get after it and work out a little harder in my gym and all those things. I haven’t gained anything insane weight-wise. But I have definitely gained some weight. I feel really good with where I’m at.”

Given his confident outlook heading into the 2020 season, if Kelce wants to jokingly attribute Wentz’s impressive transformation to added “Dad weight,” odds are Wentz won’t mind, on multiple fronts.
