LeBron James says he’s ‘cleared for takeoff’ after Lakers’ first scrimmage
LeBron James was bristling with anticipation ahead of the Los Angeles Lakers’ first scrimmage on Thursday night. The superstar appeared even more amped up afterward and made it clear he’s ready to roll for the NBA’s restart on July 30.
James took to Instagram to proclaim himself “cleared for takeoff” after knocking off some rust during Thursday’s 108-104 exhibition loss to the Dallas Mavericks at Walt Disney World Resort’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla.
Along with a slideshow of images from the scrimmage, James shared video of himself flying high on a breakaway dunk.
James’ time on the court was understandably limited, but the Lakers superstar did put up 12 points, five assists and three rebounds in 15 minutes of action.
With the NBA restart only days away, James is believed to be both physically and mentally prepared for the eight seeding games, though those matchups lack much urgency for a Lakers team (49-14 when the league went on hiatus) firmly in hold of the Western Conference’s No. 1 seed.
The Lakers will return to the scrimmage court Saturday for a tilt with the Orlando Magic. The team’s official season resumption comes Thursday with a highly anticipated showdown with the a rival Clippers squad currently slotted No. 2 in the West.
