Cam Newton shares footage of workout with Julian Edelman
Cam Newton shared video Wednesday morning from a recent workout with new teammate Julian Edelman, and it is believed to be footage from the first time the two have shared the same field.
The stylishly produced video was posted by Newton on Instagram, but the soundtrack does feature a brief utterance of a profanity, so viewer discretion is advised.
The video shows Newton completing a corner pass to Edelman, who praised the quarterback with a “great ball” compliment.
Newton captioned the post — in his patented unique use of differing fonts — with the message, “Shine thru the shade, not for likes just for life.”
The defiant tone echoes essentially everything Newton has been saying since officially signing with the Patriots on July 8, as it has become abundantly clear over the past few weeks that the former MVP has an enormous chip on his shoulder, perhaps understandably.
In an Instagram post earlier this month, Newton responded to criticism of the less-than-lucrative terms of his contract with the Patriots. The veteran signal-caller pushed back on all the chatter.
Edelman, meanwhile, expressed an eagerness about quickly getting to work with Newton once word that the onetime MVP was set to sign with the Patriots, even mimicking Newton’s font-play in a tweet.

It remains to be seen whether Newton can usurp Jarrett Stidham and claim the Patriots’ starting quarterback spot, although the odds of doing so are in his favor. What’s more, Newton does not appear concerned about stepping up and replacing Tom Brady, a quarterback many herald as the greatest to have ever played the game.
The workout with Edelman of course is a step in the right direction for Newton, who aspires to reclaim his status as one of the most dangerous quarterbacks in the NFL in 2020.
