Zion Williamson revealed as ‘NBA 2K21’ cover athlete for next-gen systems
A day after it was revealed that Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard would handle cover athlete duties for current-generation versions of “NBA 2K21,” the iconic video game series has announced that New Orleans Pelicans rookie Zion Williamson will do so for next-gen versions.
2K Sports announced on social media Wednesday that Williamson will serve as the cover athlete for “NBA 2K21” for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X whenever those consoles are ultimately released.

Video was also shared on social media of Williamson himself announcing how he’s the cover athlete for next-gen versions of “NBA 2K21.”

Last month, Williamson tweeted out gameplay footage of himself in the game, and in hindsight it could be inferred that the Pelicans phenom was teasing a more integral role in the upcoming version of the game.

It was later shared that the cover athlete for the “Legend Edition” version of “NBA 2K21” will be revealed on Thursday.
It of course should go without saying that the late, great Kobe Bryant ought to be considered a no-brainer for the “Legend Edition” cover athlete, so long as his family authorizes such a tribute following his tragic death, along with daughter Gianna and seven others, in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, Calif., on Jan. 26.
