Jets’ Sam Darnold throws pass to Giants’ Saquon Barkley in odd scene
Giants supporters and Jets backers hardly ever agree on anything, but both fan bases probably are left doing double-takes while watching footage of Jets quarterback Sam Darnold throwing a pass to Giants running back Saquon Barkley during a recent workout.
A five-second clip surfaced on Instagram this week showcasing how Darnold and Barkley — along with Carolina Panthers superstar running back Christian McCaffrey — took part in a joint workout on the UCLA campus.
The footage was originally shared in an Instagram story from quarterback trainer Devin Quinn. In the brief video, Barkley is seen on the receiving end of a pass tossed by Darnold into the end zone.

Adding another layer of interest to the video is how Darnold and Barkley are forever tied by the fact that the Giants passed on the quarterback during 2018 NFL Draft by taking Barkley at No. 2.
Darnold of course went to the Jets at No. 3 and the Giants drafted the eventual heir to Eli Manning in the 2019 draft when the team took Daniel Jones at No. 6, a move by perpetually embattled Giants general manager Dave Gettleman that was met with widespread mock and ridicule and vitriolic derision.
Of course, the Barkley selection ended up being an astute one for the Giants, as the running back ended up being named NFL Rookie of the Year and is considered one of the top backs in the league.
Darnold, meanwhile, has shown flashes of potential, with the quarterback making encouraging progress in 2019. The same can be said of Jones, who handled replacing a legend in Manning with poise while also showcasing some potential as well.
All that being said, it had to be a surreal sight for Giants fans and Jets fans to see the two stars working together, even during an informal workout.
