Dana White: Mike Tyson has ‘something big’ planned amid comeback buzz

Mike Tyson has been generating a lot of hype recently over a potential return to the ring at the age of 53, and one of his close pals revealed the former heavyweight champion has something exciting in the works.

Dana White recently mentioned how Tyson is currently planning some kind of big event, although the UFC president declined to divulge the nature of what’s apparently coming.

“From what I’m hearing from them, they have something lined up. Something big,” White said Thursday on ESPN. “And he’s gonna get in there. We talked about it and he said, ‘Listen, I feel that fire in my stomach. I wanna get in there and I wanna mix it up again.'”

There has been no concrete information on Tyson’s purported boxing comeback, nor the nature of what a return would entail. Rumors of potential bouts with Tyson Fury, Tito Ortiz and Wanderlei Silva have been floated, however.

The thing that has been generating the most buzz — and deservedly so — is a potential rematch between Tyson and 57-year-old Evander Holyfield. Tyson expressed interest in such a bout — saying Tyson-Holyfield III would be “awesome” — and Holyfield has similarly expressed interest as well.

Footage has been surfacing on social media in recent weeks that showcase how arguably the hardest puncher in boxing history remains in remarkably good shape and still possesses impressive speed and power, even at his advanced age.

White appears completely on board with a potential Tyson bout, as evidenced by how he is presently hyping such an event.

It merits noting that White has done a complete 180 in his perspective of a Tyson comeback. It’s clear now, though, that White believes a return of Tyson to the ring would be a fantastic spectacle. It’s safe to assume White’s opinion represents what most boxing fans think as well.

White’s comments about Tyson in their entirety follow.
