Capitals, Wizards, Mystics release COVID-19-themed logo shirts for charity
The Washington, D.C.-based Capitals, Wizards and Mystics have engaged on a joint effort to raise money for charity amid the coronavirus pandemic by releasing shirts featuring COVID-19-themed team logos.
The Capitals shirt features a “Wash Your Hands” message in the team’s traditional logo. Meanwhile, the shirts from the Wizards and Mystics make use of the the teams’ secondary logos. The Wizards shirt depicts two hands washing themselves in the logo while the Mystics shirt bears the message, “We’ll Always Be Together.”
The announcement of the shirt-based charity drive was made by Monumental Sports & Entertainment, the Ted Leonsis-led organization that owns the three pro sports franchises.

Proceeds from the sale of the shirts will go to the “Feeding the Frontlines” fund, which provides meals to workers in the healthcare industry.
“To support the COVID-19 relief effort, MSE Foundation has created a ‘Feeding the Frontlines’ fund to provide meals to heroes in the medical community,” reads a statement on the site where the shirts can be purchased.
“The chefs from the Washington Capitals and Washington Wizards are making meals for frontline first responders and health care workers which are being delivered to COVID-19 testing sites and area hospitals.”
Professional sports teams and organizations throughout the country and beyond have been raising awareness about how overworked healthcare workers and first responders are bravely putting themselves on the front lines amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Both New York-based and Philadelphia-based professional sports organizations previously released videos in which the teams pay tribute to those workers.
The COVID-19-themed shirts created for D.C. teams are limited-edition items and are retailing for $25.
