Vanessa Bryant’s heartfelt message to Gianna on 14th birthday: ‘Mommy loves you’

Friday would have been Gianna Bryant’s 14th birthday, and her mother Vanessa shared a heartbreaking message on what must be a day filled with overwhelming grief.

Gianna, along with eight others including father Kobe, tragically perished in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, Calif., on Jan. 26. With Friday serving as another milestone day to confront for her family, Vanessa posted a message to her daughter on Instagram.

“Happy 14th Birthday to my sweet baby girl, Gianna. Mommy loves you more than I can ever show you,” Vanessa writes in the incredibly emotional post. “You are part of MY SOUL forever. I miss you so much everyday. I wish I could wake up and have you here with me. I miss your smile, your hugs and your giggles. I miss EVERYTHING about YOU, Gigi. I LOVE YOU so much!!!!!!!”

Vanessa occasionally shares heartfelt tributes to her late daughter and husband on social media, and the pain she feels amid her mourning is palatable in the posts.

When Gianna, along with Mamba Academy teammates Alyssa Altobelli and Payton Chester, were named honorary picks in the 2020 WNBA Draft, Vanessa shared how proud she was of what her daughter accomplished in a life so tragically cut short.

“It would have been a dream come true for [Gianna]. She worked tirelessly every single day,” Vanessa said of the honor, via TMZ Sports. “She wanted to be one of the greatest athletes of all-time, just like her daddy. So thank you, thank you for honoring my little girl.”

Given all the uncertainty of late amid these unsettling times, the revelation that the Bryant tragedy occurred less than four months ago is astonishing. While it seems like so much longer ago, what Vanessa Bryant has been going through over that period of time is almost inconceivable.
