Vanessa Bryant celebrates release of book in series created by Kobe

Following his retirement and before his tragic death in January, Kobe Bryant had firmly established himself a formidable presence in the business world thanks to myriad endeavors he had undertaken.

Among them was a foray into the world of young-adult literature, and Vanessa Bryant on Tuesday hailed the release of a book in a series created by her late husband.

Titled “Season One,” the book is the second installment of “The Wizenard Series,” which began with the opening novel, “Training Camp.”

Vanessa Bryant took to Instagram to celebrate the release of “Season One.”

“Welcome back to Dren! We hope you are all ready to catch up with the West Bottom Badgers for another magical basketball season,” she wrote.

As noted by TMZ, the book features a quote from Kobe following the title page. It reads, “To young athletes who commit to doing the hard work. The process always pays off.”

Wesley King, who has penned both installments in “The Wizenard Series,” had understandably mixed feelings about the book’s release.

“Official release day,” King said. “Bittersweet without my collaborator, but grateful to see the words live on. This is a book about chasing your dreams.”

It’s nearly incomprehensible that it has not even been two months since Kobe, daughter Gianna and seven others — Christina Mauser; Payton and Sarah Chester; John, Keri and Alyssa Altobelli; and pilot Ara Zobayan — perished in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, Calif., on Jan. 26.

The coronavirus pandemic obviously has seemingly left everything that preceded the outbreak in something of a fog. The Instagram post from Vanessa certainly provides a reminder of Kobe’s shocking death, a tragedy that cast an understandable pall over an NBA season that has now devolved into arguably one to forget.
