Tom Brady jokingly reacts to Julian Edelman’s ‘Stay Tom 2020’ shirt
Tom Brady’s uncertain future continues to be the predominant storyline of this NFL offseason, and the case can be made that the known social media provocateur relishes playing a role in ratcheting up the hysteria.
Brady has been remarkably cryptic and evasive in his social media musings as the saga surrounding how he’s set to enter free agency for the first time in his two-decade career in a few weeks, to say the least.
On Wednesday, the (still) New England Patriots quarterback surfaced on Twitter to react to how longtime teammate Julian Edelman has comically inserted himself into the ongoing drama.
Edelman, whose whimsical antics both on social media and otherwise have essentially amounted to an all-out campaign to keep Brady with the Patriots, recently began selling shirts on his official site featuring clever sloganeering.
Edelman actually has a page on his site solely devoted to “Tom for QB” memorabilia and assorted merchandise. Among the items available is a shirt that bears the slogan, “Stay Tom! 2020 — A Quarterback You Can Trust” on the front.
There is also a “Tom For QB Campaign Pack” that includes lawn sign, coffee mug and Tom 2020 decal, along with a GOAT decal and button.
Realizing that Edelman in effect is potentially profiting off him and his upcoming decision, Brady took to Twitter to jokingly question whether or not his TB12 company is getting a cut of the profits by sarcastically suggesting his company sells Edelman merchandise.
.@TB12sports How much do we make on our Julian Edelman merchandise? I assume this all evens out? https://t.co/m4i38JCBDq— Tom Brady (@TomBrady) March 4, 2020
Brady, as noted, has really come into his own on social media after only joining Twitter just under a year ago. Given that NFL free agency is still a few weeks away, expect Brady to continue with these kind of social media shenanigans to add further speculation and conjecture to an already-unclear situation.
