Mic’d up Yankees reliever Zack Britton mocks Red Sox over scandal

The Houston Astros have been mocked and ridiculed throughout spring training by fans, even other MLB players. Despite also being investigated for cheating, the Boston Red Sox have for the most part avoided the taunts, jeers and brutal trolling.

That all ended, however, when New York Yankees reliever Zach Britton capitalized on ESPN televising the team’s spring training game against the BoSox on Tuesday.

Britton was mic’d up for the telecast and loosening up during the exhibition. While getting interviewed live by Matt Vasgersian and Alex Rodriguez, Britton delivered a brilliant zinger at the Red Sox’s expense.

“You guys got the Red Sox on this broadcast,” Britton quipped. “They know what’s coming. Are you feeding them anything?”

Vasgersian clearly was game for the hijinks, and cracked a joke of his own.

“No, we got a garbage can we are going to knock around for you,” he said, alluding to a key aspect of the Astros’ sophisticated sign-stealing practices.

The Red Sox presently remain under investigation by Major League Baseball over accusations of misconduct during the 2018 season. The investigation is expected to wrap up prior to Opening Day.

While the Red Sox are not expected to be punished as severely as the Astros, becoming embroiled in the cheating scandal led to the dismissal of manager Alex Cora, who was a key figure in the Astros’ sign-stealing scandal while serving as the team’s bench coach in 2017.

The Astros seemingly have opted to embrace role of villains in the wake of how the team already has been so thoroughly run through the wringer during spring training.

While the Red Sox, as noted, have not yet been subjected to the same vicious but arguably deserved treatment, Britton’s antics are probably just the tip of the iceberg.
