LeBron James lauds Andre Iguodala’s ‘championship DNA’ amid Heat deal

LeBron James knows a thing or two about going head-to-head with a team featuring Andre Iguodala with everything at stake, and the Los Angeles Lakers superstar believes the veteran’s experience in that regard will serve the Miami Heat very well.

James of course squared off with Iguodala and the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals four consecutive seasons, winning once. Iguodala’s savvy, basketball I.Q. and “championship DNA,” as James put it, makes the Heat’s acquisition of the veteran a brilliant one.

“I saw it and I was like, ‘OK,'” James said Thursday, via Dave McMenamin of ESPN. “I think it makes them a better team because of his championship DNA, you add that to that championship culture down there. So it helps them right away. … I know that ‘Dre is happy to be suiting it back up.”

After the Golden State Warriors traded the 2015 NBA Finals MVP to the Memphis Grizzlies in a salary dump this past offseason, Iguodala languished in basketball purgatory — much to the chagrin of a few Grizzlies players — never appearing in one game with his new team.

The stalemate between Iguodala and the Grizzlies reached a mutually satisfying conclusion Wednesday when he was dealt to the Heat, who understandably are thrilled over the acquisition of such a proven winner.

While much basketball is left to be played, the Heat are in prime position to make some serious noise in the postseason. Miami is certainly a legitimate contender to represent the Eastern Conference in the Finals. If LeBron and the Lakers can rise to the occasion in the Western Conference, it’s possible James will meet Iguodala yet again on the court with an NBA title on the line.
