Brett Favre sent Patrick Mahomes encouraging text about Super Bowl
Brett Favre has revealed that he sent a text to Patrick Mahomes this week ahead of the Kansas City Chiefs-San Francisco 49ers showdown in Super Bowl LIV.
Mahomes is about to play in the biggest game of his life, so Favre offered up some simple advice to the first-time Super Bowl participant. Favre relayed to TMZ Sports that he told Mahomes in the text Tuesday night to “enjoy yourself” and “soak it in!”
Favre played in two Super Bowls during his 20-year, Hall of Fame career. Both appearances came in his stint with the Green Bay Packers: A victory in 1997 over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXI and a loss to the Denver Broncos the next year in Super Bowl XXXII.
Given that Favre never returned to the Super Bowl again despite playing for many more years — though he did reach the NFC Championship Game with the Minnesota Vikings following the 2009 season — he knows all too well how such opportunities can be agonizingly fleeting.
“I just tried to get that message across that, at some point, stop and reflect on how special this moment is,” Favre said, “because it is rare.”
Favre recently made it clear he’s a huge fan of Mahomes, and the 50-year-old admitted seeing a little of his patented gunslinging traits in the young Chiefs phenom.
It stands to reason that Favre might be pulling for Mahomes to hoist the Lombardi Trophy on Sunday night at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, although he told TMZ he is a big believer in Jimmy Garoppoplo as well. Perhaps like most NFL fans without a proverbial horse in the race, Favre just wants to see an exciting, competitive football game.
