‘Jeopardy!’ clue pokes fun at Seahawks over Super Bowl loss to Patriots

“Jeopardy!” has been on a roll this week when it comes to sports-themed clues, and the Seattle Seahawks were victimized by one of them over the team’s crushing loss to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLIX.

The infamous way things played out for the Seahawks as their bid to upend the Patriots came up short now stands as one of the most scrutinized play calls in Super Bowl history.

Seattle opted to go with a pass play instead of handing off to Marshawn Lynch from the one-yard-line with 26 seconds remaining and down 28-24. The ill-fated call of course resulted in a championship-sealing Malcolm Butler interception in the end zone.

The rest, as it is said, is history, something that inspired a jab at the Seahawks on a “Jeopardy!” episode this week. The clue in question trolled Seattle for not calling Lynch’s number on the critical play.

And here’s “Jeopardy!” James Holzhauer getting the question correctly during this week’s “Tournament of Champions.”

As mentioned, the above troll-job of the Seahawks isn’t the only instance of “Jeopardy!” coming up big this week when it comes to sports trivia. The legendary quiz show ironically had a clue about sign-stealing in baseball the same day news broke about the Houston Astros’ related scandal as well.

All that said, Seahawks fans undoubtedly will lament the heartbreaking and brutal loss to the Patriots in Super Bowl XLIX for the rest of their days. Still, with Russell Wilson enjoying a MVP-caliber campaign this season, perhaps Seahawks fans could be in store for more Super Bowl glory instead of more unwanted Super Bowl infamy come next February.
