Andre Drummond: I’m ‘definitely’ the best rebounder in NBA history
Andre Drummond, now in his eighth season, has been widely hailed as among the better rebounders in the NBA throughout his career. The Detroit Pistons star clearly believes his rebounding prowess deserves even greater acclaim.
Drummond’s considerable accomplishments on the boards has inspired him to already proclaim himself as the best rebounder in NBA history.
“I think I’m definitely the best ever when it comes to rebounding,” Drummond said, per Rod Beard of the Detroit News. “I don’t think there’s anybody who’s even remotely close to the things I’ve done when it comes to (rebounding).”
To say Drummond has gotten off to an unbelievable start this season would be an understatement. The Pistons center has posted career highs across the board by averaging 21.9 points, 18.6 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.2 blocks per game. He had an especially torrid stretch earlier this season when he put up three straight games scoring more than 20 points and pulling down 20 rebounds.
That kind of outstanding play — especially on the rebounding front — has even caught the attention of Kevin Durant. The Brooklyn Nets superstar lavished praise upon Drummond during an appearance on the The Players’ Tribune’s “Knuckleheads” podcast earlier this month, saying Drummond is “special on the boards.”

Drummond caught wind of Durant’s complimentary comments, and clearly appreciated them.
“It’s really cool to hear a guy like Kevin Durant,” Drummond said, “who’s loved and valued in the NBA, to appreciate a game I take seriously with the offensive and defensive rebounding.
“That’s my knack and it’s cool to hear that he appreciates that I put that much effort and work into it.”
There’s no question Drummond has the potential to merit being touted one day as one of the better rebounders the NBA has ever seen.
That said, Drummond certainly has some work to do before his name rightfully merits mention alongside the likes of Dennis Rodman, Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell, among others, let alone being hailed as the best on the boards in NBA history.
