Emotional Michael Jordan opens first of two Charlotte medical clinics
Michael Jordan was overcome with emotion on Thursday when he unveiled the first of two medical clinics planned for Charlotte, N.C., and funded by himself and his family.
The Charlotte Hornets owner and NBA icon was on hand to preside over the official opening of the Novant Health Michael Jordan Family Medical Clinic. Being located in a lower-income area of the city, the clinic will be able to best serve underprivileged, uninsured or underinsured residents of the Charlotte area.
“I can only do this in gratitude… I can never repay what you’ve actually given to me, but this is a start.” – Michael Jordan, Hornets Chairman & Owner https://t.co/xzsOCvpMPK— Charlotte Hornets (@hornets) October 17, 2019
Jordan originally donated the $7 million required to build the facility in 2017. It became quickly apparent that the project’s realization meant a lot to Jordan, as he was moved to tears while stating that “this is a very emotional thing for me to be able to give back to a community that has supported me over the years,” per an AP report.
