Tom Brady expects ‘hard-hitting analysis’ from Rob Gronkowski at FOX
Tom Brady, like the rest of the NFL world, learned on Tuesday that Rob Gronkowski is returning to football, albeit not on the field, as the retired tight end has been hired as an analyst by FOX Sports. The New England Patriots quarterback had only glowing things to say about his former teammate’s potential to excel as a talking head.
“He’ll be good,” Brady said Tuesday, per NBC Sports Boston. “He’s been pretty good at everything he’s done. I didn’t know (about the gig). That’s good for him. A great opportunity.”
Brady was informed that Gronkowski will be handling analyst duties during FOX’s coverage of the Patriots’ “Thursday Night Football” matchup with the New York Giants in Week 6.
A smiling Brady responded, “Oh, good. Hard-hitting analysis,” before adding, “It’s great to see a lot of our guys get a lot of great opportunities like that.”
Gronkowski certainly seems like a natural fit for a job in front of the camera given his outsized personality and charisma, though it remains to be seen how well he makes the transition, as not every former player succeeds in such endeavors. Just ask Jason Witten.
That said, it will be interesting to see what comes of Gronkowski’s foray into the media world. Either way, odds are it will be entertaining. Further, Gronk’s new gig certainly pumps the brakes — at least temporarily — on any notion that he’s considering coming out of retirement and returning to the NFL as a player.
