Carli Lloyd deodorant ad trolls Bucs over recent kicking woes

U.S. women’s national soccer team captain Carli Lloyd generated a lot of buzz during the NFL preseason by showcasing kicking skills that some believe make her a legitimate candidate for a job in the league.

The heartbreaking manner in which the Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost in Week 3 thanks to a missed chip-shot field goal has become the subject of a new ad starring the three-time World Cup champion.

The advertisement for Secret Deodorant that features Lloyd cleverly trolls Bucs fans over how kicker Matt Gay whiffed on a potential 34-yard game-winning field goal as time expired in the team’s 32-31 loss to the New York Giants last Sunday.

Lloyd shared the new ad on social media, including Twitter, on Thursday morning.

“Hey Bucs fans, do you sweat 34-yarders? Carli Lloyd doesn’t,” the ad reads. “Secret believes strength is more than overcoming what makes us sweat. It’s continuing to pursue progress and equality in all industries and sectors. Women may not play professional football (yet), but isn’t it time for a level playing field wherever she wants to play?”

Lloyd originally showcased her field goal-kicking prowess by drilling a 55-yarder during a joint practice with the Philadelphia Eagles — her favorite NFL team — and Baltimore Ravens in August.

While some naysayers have been dismissive of Lloyd’s prospects of becoming an NFL kicker, there appears to be at least been some rudimentary interest on behalf of two teams, according to Lloyd’s coach, James Galanis. However, he added that any forays by Lloyd into a potential NFL kicking job will have to wait until 2020 so she can adequately train for it.
