Carson Wentz reached out to Nick Foles after injury: ‘I love Nick to death’

Nick Foles’ first season with the Jacksonsville Jaguars could not have gotten off to a worse start due to suffering a serious injury in Week 1, and former teammate Carson Wentz feels terrible for his former mentor.

Foles suffered a broken clavicle in the Jaguars’ season-opening loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, and the team placed him on injured reserve after he underwent surgery on Monday. Foles could return this season, but only after sitting out a minimum of eight weeks.

If there’s one person who understands what Foles is going through, it’s Wentz. The Eagles quarterback saw his last two seasons end abruptly due to injury, with Foles of course capably taking over in his stead.

Despite how difficult it must have been for Wentz to watch Foles lead the Eagles to a Super Bowl LII victory, not to mention a postseason berth last season, the two forged a remarkable bond.

On Wednesday, Wentz weighed in on Foles’ injury and how he knows his friend will get through it.

“I did reach out to Nick, and I love Nick to death and the competitor that he is, so that’s really a bummer and unfortunate,” Wentz said. “But that’s what we sign up for. When you play this game, there are so many things you can’t control, and I know he believes that.

“He believes that God’s using him for a reason, so to be able to go through it from a faith-filled standpoint for him, I know it’s tough, but I know he’ll handle it well.”

Foles, meanwhile, is understandably disappointed over the injury after signing a four-year, $88 million contract with the Jags in March.

“We don’t have a time span,” Foles said, via ESPN. “We’re going to take it one day at a time, just get the surgery done. … I’m going to do everything I can to get back as quickly as I can so we’re ready to roll.”
