Sean Rodriguez booed by Phillies fans after ripping them for booing
Sean Rodriguez’s decision to call out Philadelphia Phillies fans this week over their penchant for booing slumping players led to a predictable outcome: They booed him in their first opportunity to do so.
Rodriguez has been scuffling mightily at the plate of late, and before hitting a walk-off homer in the Phillies’ win over the Pirates on Monday night, fans at Citizens Bank Park booed him after a pinch-hit strikeout earlier in the game.
After the game, Rodriguez blasted Phillies fans being boo-birds, not just in defense of himself but for his teammates as well, calling them “entitled” over their antics.
It was an utter inevitability that Rodriguez would not receive a warm welcome from fans at the ballpark on Tuesday night despite his heroics the previous night, and when the third baseman stepped to plate in the second inning, fans let him have it.
Making the scene even wilder, Rodriguez actually did receive some cheers … after he got plunked.

It goes without saying that the response out of Phillies fans on Tuesday night was hardly a shocker. Things rarely go well when a player calls out the hometown fans, and that’s doubly true in a sports-crazy town like Philadelphia.
