LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard both planning team minicamps

The battle for NBA dominance in Los Angeles is set to begin in earnest this upcoming season between LeBron James’ Lakers and Kawhi Leonard’s Clippers, and it sounds like the two superstars are already making moves in an effort to get a leg up in the intracity competition.

According to a report from Stadium’s Shams Charania, both James and Leonard have taken steps to organize team minicamps to help build chemistry on the respective rosters of the Lakers and Clippers, both of which have undergone significant makeovers this offseason.

Leonard reportedly is organizing the Clippers minicamp in Miami. James, meanwhile, is believed to be scheduling the Lakers minicamp in Las Vegas sometime in September ahead of training camp.

The Lakers and Clippers of course have a handful of new faces on the roster following a frenetic free agency period, one that also included the Lakers acquiring Anthony Davis in a blockbuster trade with the New Orleans Pelicans.

Beyond the arrival of Davis, the Lakers also will have to figure out how to integrate newcomers DeMarcus Cousins, Danny Green, Jared Dudley, Troy Daniels, Avery Bradley and Quinn Cook.

The Clippers, meanwhile, made a blockbuster deal of their own, acquiring Paul George from the Oklahoma City Thunder in an effort to pair another established superstar with Leonard, who the team landed in free agency. Further, established players such as Lou Williams will have to adapt to being relegated to lesser roles thanks to the arrival of the two superstars.

Building camaraderie and chemistry obviously is a must for both the Lakers and Clippers. The planned minicamps by James and Leonard can only have a positive impact on both teams reaching those goals.
