New Celtic Enes Kanter trolls Kyrie Irving over choosing No. 11 jersey
Enes Kanter has wasted no time endearing himself to Boston Celtics fans thanks to a zinger at the expense of Kyrie Irving.
Kanter, who signed with the Celtics earlier this month on a two-year, $10 million contract, was officially introduced by the team during a press conference Wednesday, where he was joined by fellow new Celtic Kemba Walker.
The 27-year-old center, only moments into his remarks at the presser, revealed why he chose to wear No. 11 with the Celtics.

“It was number before and I want to be the reason nobody else will,” Kanter said when asked why he chose No. 11, via Mass Live. “I had to say it.”
Kanter’s one-liner was an obvious reference to a Nike commercial last winter starring Irving in which the enigmatic point guard said almost the exact same thing when explaining why he chose to wear No. 11 with the Celtics.
The commercial of course came around the time Irving was providing assurances that he would re-sign with the Celtics after the season. Despite the Celtics seemingly making every effort to keep Irving in the fold, the superstar rebuffed their advances and instead signed with the Brooklyn Nets.
celticsIrving’s two-season tenure in Boston was a tumultuous one, to put it mildly. A dysfunctional 2018-19 campaign — spurned in large part by Irving’s mercurial tendencies — that ultimately ended in postseason disappointment gave every indication Irving was as good as gone.
The fact that Kanter expertly reminded Celtics fans about the headaches caused by Irving — not to mention his idiosyncratic, unpredictable ways — so quickly shows how the big man knows how to play to an audience.
