Report: Kevin Durant sells Malibu home, buys property in New York
No stone will be left unturned in an effort to glean a hint about what Kevin Durant will do in free agency, and recent news regarding some real estate transactions indicate the superstar may be set for a cross-country trek to find his next NBA team.
Neal J. Leitereg of the Los Angeles Times is reporting that Durant has sold his oceanfront home in Malibu for $12.15 million, breaking even on the sale. Ahead of that news, Bleacher Report’s Ric Bucher reported that Durant has purchased property on the East Coast.
Sources tell Bucher that Durant has bought a home in New York and is in the process of moving all his belongings there.
What could it all possibly mean? Perhaps nothing. Still, when the news of the sale and purchase are paired, it lends legitimacy to the rumors that Durant has set his sights on playing in the Big Apple.
Durant — who has declined his player option with the Golden State Warriors for next season and is likely to miss the entire campaign — is believed to prefer the Knicks as his next team, though there’s been indications he may be just as interested in joining forces with one of his pals on the Nets.
In the meantime as Durant makes his ultimate decision, the superstar is still in New York weeks after undergoing surgery in town on his ruptured right Achilles tendon. A photograph was shared by his brother on Wednesday showing Durant tooling around town with the aid of a knee scooter.
Durant’s future of course remains up in the air, and so many things can change before he makes his ultimate decision. That said, Durant uprooting himself from the West Coast and purchasing a property in New York could mean a move is imminent. Then again, it’s not like Durant couldn’t afford to buy another place in another town should he set up shop elsewhere.
