Broncos’ surprise day off featured John Elway in dunk tank

First-year head coach Vic Fangio surprised Denver Broncos players on Thursday by giving them the day off from practice. Among the highlights of the team playing hooky was the presence of general manager and president of football operations in a dunk tank.
Thursday was supposed to be the Broncos’ final day of minicamp practices, but Fangio cleverly revealed no on-field efforts would be happening. Instead a “Field Day” was planned, as explained by safeties Will Parks and Justin Simmons.

Activities planned for the off day included a home run derby, remote-control car races, basketball shootout, water-balloon toss, a dunk tank, shaved Italian ice station, golf-chipping contest and watermelon-eating contest, as first noted by The Athletic’s Nicki Jhabvala.
The highlight of the festivities, though, had to be how Elway got in on the fun by subjecting himself to some time in the dunk tank, something the Broncos made sure to document on Twitter.

Good times, indeed. It’s safe to say Fangio’s day-off gambit was a real hit with Broncos players. Even Elway, despite a good soaking, seemed to be enjoying himself.
