Pelicans troll Stephen A. Smith over Knicks’ lottery luck meltdown

The New Orleans Pelicans overcame extremely long odds to land the No. 1 slot in the 2019 NBA Draft by winning Tuesday night’s Draft Lottery. The New York Knicks, meanwhile, did not benefit from boasting the worst record last season and will instead select third.

ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, shedding any semblance of journalistic objectivity, suffered a meltdown over the Knicks’ sorry lottery luck.

Looming large over which team would be fortunate enough to snag the No. 1 overall pick in the draft was the presence of consensus top pick Zion Williamson. Instead of the Knicks’ best-laid plans centering around selecting Williamson and proceeding from there coming to fruition, the team will instead select from the second-tier of prospects. Smith is not happy over this development, to put it mildly.

The outspoken ESPN talking head took to Twitter to share odd, poorly lit footage of his Knicks-inspired meltdown. It was weird, wacky stuff.

The Pelicans, meanwhile, were basking in the afterglow of their good lottery fortunes. Upon taking notice of Smith’s unhinged meltdown, the Pelicans could not help but troll him over the histrionics.

Well played on the part of the Pelicans. However, even with the great news coming out of lottery night, it’s believed that Anthony Davis still desires a trade out of New Orleans, so there’s that complicated obstacle the Pelicans will next have to navigate.
