Darron Lee deletes tweet seemingly reacting to Mike Maccagnan firing

Darron Lee’s long-term future with the New York Jets is in doubt, and the linebacker seemed particularly happy over Wednesday’s dismissal of general manager Mike Maccagnan.

The Jets’ firing of Maccagnan, while seemingly sudden, is said to have been in consideration for some time, as rumors have persisted that the embattled general manager was on the chopping block. The Jets made it official Wednesday, while also announcing that first-year head coach Adam Gase would assume GM duties on an interim basis.

As noted, Lee was believed not to be long with the Jets after the team declined his fifth-year option. In fact, Lee was said to be on the trade block, and if that did not pan out, the Jets reportedly could decide to release him.

Amid all that, Lee’s cheery tweet in the immediate aftermath of Maccagnan’s firing certainly made for interesting social media fodder, though he quickly deleted it.

Nothing is ever truly deleted from the internet of course, and a screengrab of Lee’s tweet, which featured the message “Good Afternoon everybody!” along with a rosy-cheek emoji, was captured.

Maccagnan is believed to have lost an organizational power struggle with Gase. It’s unclear, though, how the new head coach/interim GM views Lee. If more favorably, Gase’s rise in the Jets organization may bode well for Lee. The one certain thing, though, is that Lee was seemingly very cheery over Maccagnan getting shown his walking papers.
