NBA officials to host first postseason ‘Ref Watch Party’ on Twitter

Concerns over officiating have been one of the predominant storylines so far in the NBA playoffs, which makes the news that a “Ref Watch Party” will be held on Twitter for the first time during the postseason such an intriguing development.

ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reports that two editions of the aforementioned “Ref Watch Party” will occur in the coming days: The Game 4 showdown between the Toronto Raptors and Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday afternoon and again on Monday night when the Milwaukee Bucks and Boston Celtics square off in Game 4 of their series.

For the uninitiated, a “Ref Watch Party” consists of NBA referees fielding inquiries from fans in an interactive, Q&A format via the @OfficialNBARefs Twitter account.

While these are done from time to time during the regular season, the fact the refs are holding two of them in rapid succession in the postseason for the first time certainly lends to the novelty of the upcoming events.

Further, given how issues with officiating — mostly during the Golden State Warriors-Houston Rockets series — have been at the forefront of NBA chatter over the past week or so, the Twitter Q&As on Sunday and Monday certainly should make for lively affairs.

Fans interested in participating need only to use the hashtag #RefWatchParty to get involved.
