LeBron James, teammates cap end of season with night out
The Los Angeles Lakers closed out a nightmarish season on Tuesday night with a 104-101 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers at Staples Center. Tuesday also marked the stunning and abrupt end of Magic Johnson’s tenure as Lakers president of basketball operations, as he chose the day to announce his sudden resignation.
Lakers players, led by LeBron James, evidently needed a night out to decompress amid all the surprises, developments and finality, as the superstar was seen out and about in L.A. with a handful of his teammates.
James, Rajon Rondo, Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma, JaVale McGee, among others, were spotted by TMZ Sports at Tao Restaurant enjoying an after-season shindig that was highlighted by a Sheck Wes performance.
None of the Lakers players questioned by the TMZ camera crew were interested in making any comments about Johnson’s shocking departure, which hardly should come as a surprise.
James in particular made it clear earlier in the evening he had no inclination of addressing the Johnson news at any substantial length, even when the inquiries came from more traditional sports media members.
LeBron James didn’t address the media and had his security try to stop reporters who came near him. LeBron on the phone: “Crazy, crazy, crazy.” Yep. pic.twitter.com/PObznj26Rd— Arash Markazi (@ArashMarkazi) April 10, 2019
The offseason that the Lakers are about to embark upon already was setting up to be a critical one for the organization. Johnson’s departure makes things obviously all the more uncertain.
It’s nevertheless encouraging to see James out with some of his teammates, as word got out recently that some of the younger players on the team were left alienated by the superstar’s antics at the trade deadline earlier this season.
