LeBron James to have court on ‘Space Jam 2’ set for summer training
Filming is set to begin this summer for the highly anticipated “Space Jam 2,” and star LeBron James is making plans to ensure he can still get in his on-court offseason work during production.
The Athletic’s Joe Vardon reports James, renowned for his rigorous offseason regimen, will have a full-length basketball court on the “Space Jam 2” set so he won’t have to miss a minute of summer training due his starring role in the film.
James appears eager to move on from the disastrous first season of the Lakers era of his career, and even with “Space Jam 2” filming on his schedule, the bad taste left in his mouth from the experience will serve as motivation to get things headed in the right direction.
“I like being uncomfortable in the offseason,” James said during a recent discussion concerning the Lakers shutting him down for the rest of the season. “I like being counted out. It motivates me.”
According to a tweet in February issued from James’ production company, SpringHill Entertainment, “Space Jam 2” is slated for a premiere date of July 16, 2021.
Ryan Coogler, the co-writer and director of the Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster “Black Panther” — not to mention co-writer and director of “Rocky” sequel “Creed” — sill serve as producer for “Space Jam 2.”.
Meanwhile, Terence Nance, best known as the creator of HBO’s “Random Acts of Flyness,” will serve as the film’s director. James of course will star in the film and also serves as one if its executive producers along with longtime business partner Maverick Carter.
