Kevin Love meets young fan holding sign inspired by his mental health essay
Kevin Love bravely shared his experiences with mental health issues in a powerful essay last season, and a young fan who brought a sign to a game inspired by its title got to enjoy a meet-and-greet with the Cleveland Cavaliers star.
The Cavs were in Arizona Monday for a late-season showdown with the Phoenix Suns. While Love was held out of the game, he met up with young fan Mase Kuret at some point outside of the locker room. Kuret was holding a sign that read, “Everyone Is Going Through Something,” the title of his essay for The Players’ Tribune published in March of last year.
Love suffered a panic attack on Nov. 5 in the locker room and later penned the essay about the incident and its aftermath. Love subsequently sought mental health treatment in the wake of the panic attack.
The Cavaliers forward revealed shortly after the admission that the general response to his disclosure was “overwhelming” and “universally positive.”
Love also shared his experiences in a provocative piece by ESPN’s Jackie MacMullan detailing the NBA’s approach to addressing mental health issues affecting the league’s players.
Ever since, Love has passionately advocated for awareness as well as the destigmatization of the mental-health issues that many individuals confront in silence.
