Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving reportedly talk or text every day
It has been speculated that the friendship between Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving could play a huge role in the upcoming wave of free agency. The fact that the two superstars are said to be in daily contact has led the suspicion there may be something big brewing between the two pals.
During a recent episode of “The Hoop Collective” podcast, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported Durant and Irving are in nearly constant communication.
“I’ve had someone reputable this week tell me their relationship is as strong as ever, that Durant and Kyrie talk every day and, if not, text every day,” Windhorst said.
Durant and Irving, both set to become free agents, have been tabbed as potential targets of the New York Knicks, with chatter regarding the Golden State Warriors superstar being loudest in that respect, much to his chagrin.
Irving, meanwhile, previously assured the Boston Celtics he would re-up ahead of next season, but has since backed off a bit on those guarantees.
What really ramped up speculation that Durant and Irving may be contemplating joining forces in the Big Apple was a conversation the two shared during All-Star Weekend.

Irving angrily blasted the notion that he and Durant were somehow plotting their futures during the chat.
“It’s a video of me and one of my best friends talking,” Irving said after the All-Star Break, via Boston.com. “And then it turns out to be a dissection of a free agency meeting? Do you get that? Like, do you get that? And then I’m asked questions about that? That’s what disconnects me from all that s—.”
As things stand, there’s no telling how things will play out with Irving, Durant and Knicks on the free-agency front, but many insiders still believe Durant will ultimately end up in New York.
The Celtics presumably are holding out hope the mercurial Irving keeps his word and signs a new deal. The Warriors, meanwhile, know only one thing about their superstar’s future: They know nothing at all.
