Bryce Harper waxes poetic about Philly on Instagram

Bryce Harper not surprisingly continues to make a concerted effort at ingratiating himself to Philadelphia Phillies fans, and the slugger continues to showcase a savvy sense of how to use social media to accomplish as much.

Harper earlier this month signed a then-historic 13-year, $330 million deal following a surprisingly protracted slog through free agency, and he’s been feeling the love from Phillies fans ever since.

On Tuesday, Harper emerged on Instagram to wax poetic about the City of Brotherly Love, writing, “How I longed to see these things; how I longed to see the Liberty Bell and party on the streets where Bobby Clarke, Nick “BD” Foles, and Chase Utley had partied!”

Interestingly, Harper’s post came on the same day it was reported that his MLB peers tabbed him as the most overrated player in baseball, according to a poll conducted by The Athletic.

Harper, though, is accustomed to such slights, as he was previously named the overrated MLBer by his fellow players in both the 2014 and 2015 seasons.

Further, it was just last season that an anonymous National League executive viciously ripped Harper, calling the superstar slugger a “losing player” and “simply overrated.”

All that said, such slams are hardly going to temper the ongoing enthusiasm in Philly surrounding the celebrated Harper signing. After all, it was Harper himself who stated he was “Feeling Brotherly Loved” in an earlier — and similarly savvy — social media dispatch.
