Ben Simmons shouts out Australia’s ‘Egg Boy’ on sneakers
Ben Simmons may be focused on keeping the Philadelphia 76ers on a roll during their march toward the postseason, but the NBA superstar clearly is keeping an eye on what’s been happening recently back home in Australia.

Simmons, who was born and raised in Melbourne and spent most of his adolescence in Australia, gave a shout out Tuesday night to the young man now known globally as “Egg Boy,” whose actions over the weekend have been both hailed and condemned.
Will Connolly, 17, broke an egg on the head of polarizing Australian senator Fraser Anning, who ignited a firestorm with inflammatory remarks concerning last Thursday’s mass shootings at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, that left 50 people dead and many wounded.

Simmons does not court controversy nor is he as politically outspoken as some of his fellow NBA players — although he’s been known to make a provocative statement from time to time — but clearly he felt the need to make a statement about what’s presently happening in his home country.
