LeBron James thanks Michael Jordan in heartfelt Instagram post

LeBron James surfaced on social media Thursday to thank Michael Jordan on the day after the Los Angeles Lakers superstar passed his idol on the NBA’s all-time scoring list.

Jordan earlier Thursday issued a statement congratulating James for “achieving another great milestone” during his amazing career.” It was James turn to send back his own kind words.

“THANK YOU M.J!! Still tripping about last night. Couldn’t have in a trillion years thought that would be possible especially knowing where I come from and what I watch him do every single night! Doesn’t make sense to me to be honest,” James message read, sans emojis. “Man it’s CRAZY!! I know you guys think I’m tripping but if you knew me and my friends growing up you’d understand. Beyond blessed and appreciative of all the congrats from family, friends, colleagues, strangers, haters, etc etc!! For the ones who been on the journey from Day 1 and I mean Day 1 I thank you even more!!”

James had previously expressed his gratitude to Jordan by scrawling a message to His Airness on the sneakers he wore during Wednesday night’s game.

James surpassed Jordan’s 32,292 career points during the second quarter of the Los Angeles Lakers’ 115-99 loss to the Denver Nuggets, and by doing so became the fourth-most prolific scorer in NBA history.

James once suggested he’s chasing the “ghost” of MJ, and that pursuit will continue long after Wednesday night’s accomplishment. After all, James has a long way to go to catch MJ in NBA titles. Further, the Lakers superstar also has aspirations to one day emulate Jordan by becoming an NBA owner as well.
