Snoop Dogg reportedly ‘meant no disrespect’ with Lakers rant
Snoop Dogg has found himself ensnared in controversy due to questionable comments made during a recent rant about the free-falling Los Angeles Lakers, but the rap icon reportedly “meant no disrespect” with his over-the-line remarks.
Snoop Dogg, like most Lakers fans, is disgusted over how the LeBron James-led squad is suffering through a disastrous season that is falling well short of expectations.
Following the Lakers’ 118-109 loss to the cellar-dwelling Phoenix Suns over the weekend, Snoop Dogg surfaced on social media and eviscerated the team in a lengthy rant that many believed to be wholly inappropriate.
Arguing that embattled head coach Luke Walton should be fired and that every player outside of LeBron is expendable, Snoop Dogg made some inflammatory comments in which he states the Lakers should get “a slave ship and ship all them … outta here.”
Amid the backlash, TMZ Sports is reporting that the rapper’s rhetoric was simply an off-the-cuff reaction to the Lakers’ struggles espoused in a moment of extreme frustration.
Sources close to the D-O-Double-Gizzle tell TMZ … the rapper’s trash talking — taken by many as racist — was totally a heat of the moment thing. We’re told the rapper turned on his phone, and impulsively unloaded about his Lakers’ embarrassing loss to the last-place Suns.
There is no question that the first season of the LeBron Era in L.A. has gone nowhere close to what was envisioned. In fact, it could be argued that it’s been an unmitigated disaster.
Still, Snoop Dogg probably regrets framing his frustration in such a manner, or at least should. It will be interesting to see if he ever issues a statement on the situation or allows the TMZ report to speak for itself.
