D.C. bakery offers Bryce Harper free doughnuts for life if he signs with Nationals

The Washington Nationals are widely believed to be out of the Bryce Harper sweepstakes, but that has not stopped a D.C. bakery from literally sweetening the prospects of somehow keeping the superstar slugger in town.

District Doughnut took to Twitter Tuesday to offer Harper free doughnuts for life should the free agent and the Nationals somehow hammer out a deal, however unlikely.

Interestingly, the above tweet was a followup to one District Doughnuts cooked up on Monday with Harper’s baffling, ongoing free agency in mind.

Offers like these from businesses, restaurants and the like are typical when such situations arise involving sports heroes potentially skipping town. In fact, given the nature of the doughnut shop’s options, one could even call them a dime a (baker’s) dozen.

All that said, District Doughnut’s admirable efforts at luring Harper back to D.C. are probably all for naught. Despite the Los Angeles Dodgers, among other teams, reportedly reemerging to check in on the Harper free-agency tour as it slogs along, it appears the Philadelphia Phillies are most likely to sign the slugger to a deal at long last.

Then again, given the protracted debacle of Harper’s free agency, nothing is certain until he puts pen to paper.
