LeBron James reveals ‘Space Jam 2’ will begin filming this summer

LeBron James recently made a huge announcement about the production schedule for the highly anticipated “Space Jam 2,” stating that filming of the long-awaited movie is slated to begin this coming summer.

The big reveal from the Los Angeles Lakers superstar, attached to “Space Jam 2” as its star and one of its executive producers, came during All-Star Weekend and was somehow overlooked somewhat amid the myriad storylines that emerged during the NBA’s high-profile, three-day showcase.

Ryan Coogler, the co-writer and director of the Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster “Black Panther” — not to mention co-writer and director of “Rocky” sequel “Creed” — has been attached to the “Space Jam” project as producer.

Meanwhile, Terence Nance, perhaps best known as the creator of HBO’s “Random Acts of Flyness,” will serve as the film’s director.

Both Coogler’s and Nance’s involvement in the project was noted in a social media dispatch last fall from SpringHill Entertainment, the production company James founded with longtime business partner Maverick Carter.

Interestingly, it’s been reported that Michael Jordan, of course the star of the original “Space Jam,” could conceivably have some level of involvement in “Space Jam 2” although that is “still to be determined.” Carter subsequently indicated Jordan would be most welcomed in any role or capacity.

For now, though, it’s James’ pet project, and with filming set to begin sooner rather than later, many more details are certainly bound to emerge.
