Carmelo Anthony’s toast to Dwyane Wade: ‘We more than a banana boat’
Dwyane Wade was treated to a star-studded salute — in more ways than one — Thursday night, as the retiring Miami Heat legend was honored for his iconic career.
Among those attending the fête — where Wade was presented with his own Hollywood star — were longtime pals Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul, not to mention Magic Johnson.

Anthony, in good spirits despite remaining unemployed, saluted his pal with a toast, during which he mentioned the Banana Boat, a water recreational toy that became the source of a running gag some years back.

“People joke about the banana boat,” Anthony said in the toast, “but we more than a banana boat.”
What makes Anthony’s comments particularly amusing is how the infamous Banana Boat photo that spawned all the hijinks did not include him. Instead, said photo featured Wade, Wade’s wife, Gabrielle Union, Paul and LeBron James riding on said banana-shaped aquatic conveyance.

It merits noting, though, that a meme later inspired by the Banana Boat included an animated Anthony.
To say the Banana Boat craziness took on a life of its own would be an understatement. Long live the Banana Boat Brotherhood.
