Joel Embiid: I ‘saved’ Regina King’s life with leap over her
Joel Embiid played the role of hero by leaping over Regina King during Wednesday’s 126-111 victory over the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden, and the Philadelphia 76ers star had no issue with patting himself on the back for his actions.
Embiid somehow managed to avoid contact with the Emmy Award- and Golden Globe-winning, Oscar-nominated actress by hurdling over her while chasing down a loose ball.

Unfortunately, Madison Square Garden statistician Dave Fried paid the price for Embiid avoiding King, as the Sixers star’s foot was planted squarely in his chest in the aftermath.

Fried deservedly received some attention for his punishing role in the wild scene, as he was interviewed alongside Embiid after the game.

Later, Embiid had no qualms about claiming his hurdle may have spared King’s life.
“It’s good that I saved her life, I guess, but someone else had to, like, take that,” Embiid said, via ESPN. “I’m sorry about that.”
King not surprisingly took to Twitter to thank Embiid for his “life-saving” leap.
Yoooo. Thank you God and @JoelEmbiid for your athletic abilities. Crisis averted https://t.co/LLTtzECuV4— Regina King (@ReginaKing) February 14, 2019
While King’s expression of appreciation of course is commendable, it appears Embiid already was cognizant of the extent of his heroics.
