James Harden honors Charlotte with NASCAR-themed All-Star shoes
All-Star Weekend will be held in the coming days in Charlotte, N.C., and James Harden decided to add some local flavor to the sneakers he’ll wear for the finale of all the festivities on Sunday.
The Houston Rockets superstar showcased his NASCAR-themed kicks in a video tweeted out by “EA Sports NBA Live” as part of the rollout of “NBA Live 19 All-Star Edition.”
NASCAR may be headquartered in Daytona Beach, Fla., but the auto-racing outfit’s presence is strongly felt in the city hosting the 2019 NBA All-Star Game, highlighted by the iconic Charlotte Motor Speedway, where the first official stock-car race was held in 1949.
So, what better way for Harden to pay tribute to Charlotte’s auto-racing history than with sneakers that pay tribute to NASCAR? Harden himself explains in EA Sports’ video.

“We just try to come up with something very creative about the city that we’re in,” Harden said, as transcribed by Bleacher Report. “This year, the All-Star Game is in Charlotte, which is known for auto racing, so we wanted to put some emphasis on that and show them some love about their city.”
Harden also notes in the video that as is always the case with his line of sneakers from Adidas, he offered input on his NASCAR kicks for the All-Star Game.
“I’m in the process of all my shoes and details, so pretty much I know everything that’s going on,” Harden said. “I’m just happy to be a part of the process and see the finishing touches, and then actually go out there in perform in them and play well.”
