Cam Newton shares vlog detailing shoulder procedure
Cam Newton has allowed an inside look at how he’s battling through his well-documented shoulder troubles with a vlog posted Thursday to his new YouTube channel.
Titled, “What’s wrong with my shoulder?”, the video chronicles the arthroscopic scope procedure the Carolina Panthers quarterback underwent on his shoulder last month, including footage of him counting down from 100 after being given an anesthetic ahead of the Jan. 24 surgery.
Newton reveals some pretty harrowing revelations about how badly his shoulder was hurting this past season and how it put him in a compromised position.
“This persona that we play, you can’t show no signs of weakness. But I was weak, and I felt so vulnerable. I felt so scared. I felt so afraid because I know I wasn’t myself,” Newton said, as transcribed by the Panthers’ official site. “I didn’t know what was wrong with my shoulder. I just knew that it hurt, and I knew it was an issue. I couldn’t throw the ball no further than 30 yards, no lie. So I was trying to keep up with it as much as possible until the wheels fell off.”
Newton remains confident, despite the obstacles in front of him, that he’ll make a full comeback. In fact, the Panthers signal-caller will use those who doubt him as motivation during his recovery.
“Seeing the doubt, hearing the whispers of, ‘He don’t got it no more,’ fuels me. That’s what makes this comeback even more extraordinary. I feel this is going to make me even more dangerous,” Newton said.
“When it’s all said and done, I can look back at my life and I know that this particular time in my life propelled me to that next point, and I’m excited for what the future holds.”
The Panthers are said to fully expect Newton to make a full recovery and be ready for training camp. It would appear that Newton is eager to prove them right.
