LaVar Ball blasts Luke Walton, says Anthony Davis ‘not a winner’
LaVar Ball is back at it with his old antics, and this time around the outspoken father of Los Angeles Lakers guard Lonzo Ball is zeroing in on embattled coach Luke Walton and Anthony Davis.
The elder Ball’s latest tirade stems from how his son has become a central figure in the Lakers’ pursuit of Davis and likely will be part of any deal bringing the New Orleans Pelicans superstar to L.A.
LaVar Ball has stated that he wants Lonzo to end up with the Phoenix Suns and nowhere else should the Lakers deal the second-year player, which perhaps explains why he ended up making an appearance on Arizona radio.
Walton, a longtime target, was again blasted by Ball during the latter’s interview Tuesday on 98.7’s “Doug & Wolf” show.
“Luke Walton was the worst coach he ever had. It was Magic [Johnson] who said he was going to be the dang face of the franchise,” Ball said, as transcribed by Bleacher Report. “But Magic ain’t doing no coaching. And the only person to kill Lonzo is the coach pulling him out and not having no confidence in him. Everyone who’s had confidence in Lonzo just let him go and let him win. That’s what he does. He wins. Luke Walton turned him into a loser. A loser’s mentality is like, ‘Oh, he’s young, he’ll get it.’ Instead of just letting him go out there and do what he does.”
Regarding Davis, the elder Ball praised the superstar, but with one caveat.
“AD is good!” Ball said. “But he’s not a winner. How many playoff games has he won? He’s been in the league a long time, there’s a difference between players and winners.”
Given the trade chatter involving his son, it’s hardly surprising that Ball is sounding off after remaining remarkably quiet (for the most part) this season.
That said, the case can be made that Lonzo Ball is being done a disservice by his father, as what team really wants to get bogged down in these kind of antics out of a player’s parent?
