Le’Veon Bell showcases new black and gold cleats on Twitter

Le’Veon Bell surfaced on social media this week, and the nature of the disgruntled running back’s tweet is sure to pique the interest of Pittsburgh Steelers fans.

Bell, whose NFL future is no clearer now than it was when he sat out the entire Steelers’ offseason program — and then the entire season — took to Twitter to showcase some new cleats which feature the classic black and gold of the Steelers.

A perfectly reasonable assumption would be that Bell is perhaps hinting that he and the Steelers have not reached a point of no return and it’s conceivable the running back could be back in Pittsburgh next season. That assumption arguably would be an incorrect one.

Bell is expected to hit free agency in March, but the Steelers could use the transition tag on the running back. Such a move would give the team the ability to match any offer that Bell receives, although it’s highly unlikely the Steelers will do so due to a multitude of factors.

The Steelers reportedly offered Bell a five-year, $70 million contract last offseason, which he of course rejected, reportedly due to how the proposed deal only included $17 million in guaranteed money.

All that said, while it’s certainly possible that Bell and the Steelers could hammer something out in the weeks to come, odds are he’s set to embark upon free agency come March, barring the transition tag scenario.

The color of the cleats in Bell’s tweets, though? Given the protracted standoff between Bell and the Steelers that yielded absolutely no apparent progress whatsoever, the shoes are most likely much ado about nothing.
