Watch: Flyers mascot Gritty trolls Bears kicker with ‘Cody Parkey Challenge’
Chicago Bears kicker Cody Parkey not surprisingly has been getting mocked and ridiculed in the wake of his missed (partially blocked) potential game-winning field goal in Sunday’s stunning wild-card loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Now, Philadelphia Flyers mascot Gritty is getting in on the savagery, thanks to its “Cody Parkey Challenge” routine during Monday’s 3-0 loss to the St. Louis Blues at Wells Fargo Center.
During a break in the action, Gritty, donned a blindfold in a nod to the “Bird Box Challenge” routine taking the world by storm that’s inspired by the Sandra Bullock-starring Netflix flick.
In a twist on the bit, a man holding a “Bird Box Challenge” sign revealed one that read “Cody Parkey Challenge.” Gritty then proceeded to attempt a “field goal” in the stands while blindfolded, booting the ball into the lower bowl.

It makes total sense that the mascot for Philadelphia’s NHL squad jumped at the opportunity to troll Parkey in light of how the town is reveling in the Eagles’ advancement to the divisional round in the NFL playoffs.
Gritty, the googly-eyed, orange mascot who was just introduced this season, has been a huge hit, despite his disturbingly strange appearance and oddball antics. His nod to the circumstances that led to the Eagles’ postseason triumph will only ingratiate him to the Philly sports faithful that much more.
